Week 3-Question of the Week: Tips & Advice for Naturals

One's hair texture vs. One's hair tactics

Women who have long natural hair could have better hair tactics not necessarily a better hair texture.

If your hair suffers from chronic shortness or does not seem to be growing; then there is a greater issue than the texture of your hair.

Try not to hop back and forth between hair regimens that you think will quickly produce results. Learn the reasons why certain tactics work positively for your hair.

Do not blindly copy the hair care systems of others; you will be disappointed in the end.

Gain a strong understanding of which techniques help your hair thrive.

GM (General Motors Diet) Day 1

Hi Everyone

Today is my first day starting the GM diet. So far so good, I've eaten my breakfast with consist of  fruits (watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew, plus I drank about 20 oz of water so far (need to drink 80 oz!). For the rest of the day it will be the same as breakfast!

I will provide a day to day meal plan and what I eat.

See below for day one meal plan.

Day 1.

All fruits except bananas. There is no limit on the amount and type of the fruits you will consume, but it is highly recommended to eat lots of watermelons and cantaloupes — and of course, to skip bananas.

Week 2-Question of the Week: Tips & Advice for Naturals

Going natural will NOT make your hair grow faster!

Black hair grows the same whether it is natural or relaxed. Hair growth comes from the scalp. The trick is keeping the hair that is growing.

Your hair will continue to grow at the same rate it always has. Through steady correct efforts to care for your hair, you will become more skilled at achieving longer and longer hair.

Keeping the older ends that have been on your head for years is a skill; but it is also a process. There is no way around it.

There are thousands of hair tactics and regimens available to you on the internet, but there are four basic things that the hair (whether relaxed or natural) must get in order to thrive.

FAQ: Dry and Itchy Scalp!!

What can you do to prevent and help treat this problem?

There are those who know this situation all too well. I even know people who have suffered from extreme conditions resulting in hair loss. Well I can attest to the fact that my daughter have a very dry and itchy scalp. I would wash her hair and the next day her scalp would be flaky already!! It became embarrassing to have have people looking at her hair and see the flakes and to always be scratching her head. Here are some remedies, (the majority of them being remedies that can be found right in your kitchen), that I have tried along with hundreds of other women! There is hope! I pray that these remedies and this information is a help to you. Please comment back with follow up :)

Part 1: how do you clean your hair?

A few helpful tips: How do you wash your hair anyway?
  • Use your fingertips! Do NOT scrub your scalp with your fingernails. Don't scratch!
  • DO NOT work your hair into a vicious lather all over your head! Take it easy turbo!! :) This will result in extra dangling! You want to take it slow and wash very gently
  • Allow the water to do most of the work! Split your hair into several sections and allow the water to wash away any product buildup, dandruff flakes, plaque, etc. A good 5-10 minutes of water rinsing will make a huge difference.
  • If you are in a rush, frustrated or having a bad day, DO NOT wash your hair!! Wait until you have time to be patient and gentle with your locks
AVOID most shampoos!! There are many chemicals that are very damaging, drying and detrimental to our precious and fragile hair. If you see any of these ingredients, RUN!

Again, avoid these chemicals!
 PEG: (abbreviation for polyethylene glycol),
 DEA (diethanolamine),
MEA (momoethnanolamine),
TEA (triethanolamine),

To condition or not? TO CONDITION!!

  • Deep conditioning is a MUST! Again, you want to avoid conditioners that do not have those bad listed ingredients
  • If your hair is NOT protein sensitive (which mine is so this doesn't work for me)- you can use mayonnaise! I know this works very well for some women!
Hair Scrub Recipe:

Milk 1/4
Olive oil 1/4 cup
Sugar 1/2 cup
-Lightly scrub with your fingertips into your scalp. You want to slowly massage away a lot of the dry flakes.
-Once you have worked it in well, rinse thoroughly and follow up with your normal wash and condition regimen.
Part 2: how well do you moisturize your hair??

  • Petroleum based products are bad bad bad news!!
  • WATER IS YOUR FRIEND!! It is the BEST moisturizer you can use!!
  • OIL is your friend! Extra virgin olive oil, carrot oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc.

Hot Oil Treatment Recipe
Hot oil treatments are very important!! It does wonders on my hair!

1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon of honey

1 tablespoon of lime

-Warm up the ingredients in the microwave for 15 seconds. Or until warm
-Massage into scalp
-Cover head with plastic shower cap, or plastic bag
-Sit under a head dryer or place a hot towel (heated with hot water) over head for 5-20 minutes
-Rinse thoroughly and follow up with wash and condition regimen

Part 3: what about your diet?

Ever heard the phrase, YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT?? Well ladies, its pretty true. So it is important to maintain a good and balanced diet. This includes:
  • Drinking 8 glasses or more of water every day
  • Stay away from soda, sugary drinks, etc. Instead lean on things with antioxidants. Green tea, super fruit tea, and things like this. Coffee can be harmful if it isn't in moderation. It is fine to have a cup of Joe but you need to be sure to flush it out with plenty of water
  • Slow down on the fast food and take out! If only you truly knew what you were doing to your body! Cook at home, find some new recipes!!
  • Fruits, veggies, salads, nuts, etc
  • Chicken and fish are the best choices for meat. Red meat is necessary in  your diet as well!! Yes it is NECESSARY. So make sure you have red meat at least once a week
  • When it comes to breads and carbs, try to stay away from bleached stuff. Lean towards wheat, whole grain, rye.. things of that sort.

In conclusion...
These are all very important things that you need to do in order to take care of that dry and itchy scalp! It can be done!!

Week 1-Question of the Week: Tips & Advice for Naturals

Natural hair is not easier than relaxer!

If you are excited about going natural because you cannot wait to embrace your long, kinky natural hair; that is great. But do not be mislead to believe that natural hair is somehow easier to maintain than your relaxed hair.

Both hair types have potential to reach amazingly long lengths. It all depends on the use of appropriate grooming habits when caring for your hair, such as protective styling and such. Are you willing to go the distance to achieve the long, beautiful black hair that you always wanted?

One thing I can say about becoming natural is the factual information I gained and how to care for my black hair.

I look to Youtube and black hair care books for information when I am struggling with my hair. Who or what do you look to when you experience difficulty with your hair?
